Bullying

People generally resort to the unhealthy practice of bullying in order to exercise their authority over another person. In the process the person who is bullying another person says or does things that might prove distressing to the person who is subjected to the ordeal of bullying.

People who find pleasure in bullying do so by targeting an individual by calling them names, saying or writing unpleasant things about them, hindering their activities, remaining indifferent to them, intimidating them, making them feel awkward or frightened, hiding or destroying their things, assaulting or kicking them, or forcing them to perform actions much to their dislike.

In fact, bullying is an undesirable conduct that makes the individual being bullied frightened or embarrassed. Some people bully others since they consider it as a means of gaining popularity. They also feel that bullying will assist them in appearing robust and in total control of a situation.

There are many people who indulge in the practice of bullying in order to seek attention or obtain things or simply to instill a sense of fear among other people. At times people are envious of the individuals they are bullying. It has also been observed that people who bully others may have also been bullied at some point of time in their lives.

Most of the time people who bully others fail to realize the impact of their action that might have on others or how their undesirable activity can humiliate other persons.

Bullying-no specific reason

  • At times young people are bullied for no specific reason. They may be a victim of bullying due to the fact that they might possess some unique quality that makes them stand apart from the rest.
  • This may be due to the color of their skin, the manner in which they talk, or their awkward size or their peculiar name. Occasionally young people are bullied since they appear as weaklings and seem unlikely to counter the offensive.

Bullying can lead to severe problems in young people by making them feel forlorn, miserable and scared. People who are subjected to bullying have a low esteem about themselves and feel insecure and begin to accept the fact there is something wrong with them. They lose self-belief and are reluctant to go to school or their place of work since bullying makes people miserable.

Dealing with bullying can be tough, but one should beer in mind that the person who is bullied is not the cause of the problem but the person resorting to the practice is. People who are bullied possess the right to feel protected and safe and if a person is different by virtue of his appearance or trait he or she should take pride in it. It is advisable that people who are exposed to bullying should try to be in the company of their friends since bullies seldom target people who are with others in a group.
